Jess Desorcie, Abbey Dufoe, Madison Smiddy and Sydney Sherman set to perform at THON in 2012

THEN

A member of the 2009-10 West Chester Quakers team that won the 19U Tier II Atlantic District championship, forward Abbey Dufoe arrived in University Park from Penn State's Brandywine campus in 2011-12. She then played forward for the final Lady Icers team prior to the 2012 PSU hockey reboot, which won the ECWHL regular season championship - to date, the only ECWHL title won by a Penn State team - before graduating in 2013.

Major: Media Studies, with minors in Environmental Inquiry and Civic and Community Engagement

Favorite Penn State hockey memory:"I learned the most about hockey - and about myself as a hockey player - in the shortest amount of time as a player at Penn State. Playing on that club team set me up with a better attitude to play in grad school and now for my women's team."

Favorite Penn State non-hockey memory:"I loved being part of something bigger while I was in school, and that's still the case as an adult. Everywhere I go now, whether it's hiking in Colorado or at a work event in New York City, I meet a Penn Stater. I can't describe what it feels like to belong to a group of people who feel the same school pride (and not just about football)."

Post-grad studies: Masters in Environmental Science and Natural Resource Journalism from the University of Montana

NOW

Home: Bridgewater, New Jersey

Career:"It's not as glamorous as it sounds, but I am technically a Web Producer and Social Media Manager at Climate Central in Princeton, New Jersey, a climate news and research organization dedicated to giving people information they can use to make sound decisions about climate action. Most of my job is curating news and research to share with our followers on social media, and interacting with them on Facebook and Twitter. I also send out our email campaigns all over the world."

Outside of work:"I try to spend every waking moment outside walking in the forest when I'm not at work, which is a little tough in North Jersey, but I take vacations a couple times a year to hike national parks in the U.S. and in Canada. I've visited 45 states and 20 national parks just in the U.S., and countless state parks, national forests, and national recreation areas in North America, so I love to explore. If I'm not outside, I'm headed into New York City and in the front row of a concert!"

Current hockey involvement:"I was the captain of the University of Montana team at grad school, and have been an assistant captain on the North Jersey Phoenix women's team."
